Is your child getting the training needed to play at the highest level? Even the smallest advantage can be massive as your athlete moves through progressively more difficult levels of play. I have a plan and I have seen it work first hand.
A comprehensive combination of sports performance drills and technical training specifically related to the demands placed on a soccer player is key for success. My background as a player and my extensive background working with athletes gives me an advantage over traditional sports performance programs. There are several different things that every athlete needs to improve performance such as balance, strength, power and core stabilization. These are all important aspects of the FTFS regimen but I have laid out what I feel are the more specific needs for a soccer player.
There are three types of speed that a soccer player must exhibit and a large percentage of my program is spent specifically targeting those goals. The first and maybe the most important is foot speed. This is trained through repetitive technical training with increasing demand placed on the central nervous system. Studies indicate that prolonged training in a specific sport will cause the central nervous system to program muscle coordination to the demands of that sport. The second type of speed is speed/acceleration with the ball. This is the ability to accelerate into space at a very high rate maintaining optimal levels of ball control. This is achieved with a progression of speeds and external variables. The third type of speed is sprint speed/acceleration without the ball. Many players have this ability but in all honesty this carries the least amount of weight in regards to the total performance of a soccer player. Every coach that discusses the qualities of the best players in the world are most often talking about his/her ability with the ball at his/her feet.
